Evoking the Dreamtime – by Barry Martin

Just hearing or reading the word Dreamtime may conjure up surreal images of a utopian world where everything is just as it should be. But what does this word really mean and where did it come from? The answer can be as complex as the ideal. First, know that the word Dreamtime was not derived or interpreted from any Australian Aboriginal language. Rather, this evocative term was coined by early anthropologists to represent the entirety of Aboriginal mythology, law, and … [ Read the Rest... ]

New Yidaki and Vintage Didgeridoos

LA Outback has just received a beautiful collection of yidaki and vintage didgeridoos the other day. The instruments are now photographed with individual video demos by expert player Andjru Werderitsch. AJ Block Demos Wooden Slide Didgeridoo

AJ Block of Didge Project in New York came by LA Outback for a brief visit while he was in town to perform at the Aboriginal Dreamtime Gallery in West Hollywood. While he was here we captured a video of him demonstrating his wooden slide didgeridoo by Wood Slide. We had heard of these didgeridoos but never seen one, so it was cool to hear AJ playing one. They really have amazing tonal quality and great note control.

AJ Block and Will Thoren Concert

Just wanted to post a couple photos we took this past weekend at the Aboriginal Dreamtime Fine Art Gallery in West Hollywood. AJ Block and Will Thoren played didgeridoo solos and duets during a two hour special event on Saturday night. The gallery drew a really nice turn out of didgeridoo enthusiasts and those just curious about the instrument. If you haven’t checked out the gallery and you live in Los Angeles, be sure to stop by and tell them … [ Read the Rest... ]
